Print or design beach flags - targeted placement of advertising

Beach flags - these are the wildly fluttering flags that you see not only on the beach, but also often in the city. Whether at sports fairs, street festivals or in the shopping arcade - beach flags are an ideal way to place advertising for many different applications. The advantage is that beach flags attract a lot of attention due to their size, shape and movement in the wind. They tower above all other advertising media and are an eye-catcher even from a distance. This way, a large number of potential customers can be won over. What exactly beach flags are, where and for which applications they can be used and which design options are available, you will find out in this blog post!

What are beach flags?

A beach flag is a flag that is slightly mobile and held securely to the ground by a heavy stand. Although they carry advertising, they serve more to attract attention than to convey information. Because they radiate lightness, they create a pleasant feeling - they arouse curiosity. The gaze automatically goes to the beach flags fluttering in the wind and accordingly the advertising on them is also read, although this tends to play a secondary role. Beach flags are used at trade fairs, in shopping arcades or at events and are primarily intended to attract walk-in customers. However, they can also be found in restaurants, cafés or extra large at petrol stations, i.e. wherever there are busy places.

An important characteristic that a beach flag must have is durability, longevity and robustness. Only then can it reliably withstand wind and weather for several weeks or months. It should also be washable and be able to be set up both indoors and outdoors. Beach flags should also be easy to handle, as they are mobile advertising spaces that can be set up flexibly at different locations.

The different forms of beach flags

Beach flags are available in different shapes and sizes depending on where they are to be erected. Basically, four shapes of beach flags can be distinguished, although there are also further gradations.

Beach flags in drop shape can be used especially in front of buildings, at outdoor events or at sporting events. They get the relevant advertising campaigns going and are also suitable as stopping points or signposts.

Beach flags in a straight shape have more space for advertising messages. With their rounded tip, they are reminiscent of windsurfing sails that sway back and forth dynamically in the wind. Accordingly, they also convey a certain holiday feeling.

Beach flags in convex form have a rather unconventional but supple shape. Due to their wave-like appearance and the lightness that comes with it, the advertising message carries the viewer directly to the sea.

If you need a particularly large area for your advertising message, then you should opt for beach flags with an extension arm. The rectangular upright format is suitable as a stand in front of buildings and has a great effect when there is no wind.

Areas of application for beach flags and corresponding material

Indoor beach flags have to meet different requirements than those used outdoors. The material used for indoor beach flags should be fireproof in order to comply with fire regulations. Since there is usually no wind there either, a light base is sufficient to keep them securely in place. If you choose beach flags with a light base and made of fireproof material, they can be used safely at sporting events, trade fairs or in wind-protected corners at entrances or stands.

If beach flags are used outdoors, there are several factors to consider. It is important that the material is wind- and weatherproof and, above all, UV-resistant. Otherwise, the prints would fade after a short time in strong sunlight. It is also advisable to use a heavy stand to reliably prevent the beach flag from blowing away. Beach flags for outdoor use can be used at events, petrol stations or in shopping arcades. However, certain regulations apply: They should not impair the safety of traffic or obscure the view of landscapes. Likewise, stands on the direct bank or on embankments should be avoided. Further information is available from the relevant building inspectorate or authorities.

Designing beach flags - tips and tricks

One challenge with beach flags is that they only provide a limited amount of space. Long lettering or even sentences are therefore unsuitable as advertising. The message should therefore be as short as possible and still make it immediately clear what it is about. In addition, a beach flag must be designed accordingly due to its conspicuousness: Tension must be built up, the most important thing must be communicated and a feeling of curiosity or anticipation must be aroused.

Beach flags can be printed either on one side or on two sides. If you opt for the two-sided version, walk-in customers can see the motif on both sides. Beach flags printed on both sides usually consist of three layers: Two printed layers and one unprinted layer between them. This prevents the motif from shining through and the message from being difficult or impossible to read. In addition, the middle third layer increases the robustness of the beach flag. The advantage of printing on both sides is that the advertising is visible from both sides and thus not mirror-inverted.

Alternatively, you can also opt for the one-sided printed version. These are cheaper in price and at the same time very robust and durable in all weather conditions. Although walk-in customers can see through them and then also see the motif mirror-inverted, this is precisely what can be used as a design element. Another advantage: Beach flags printed on one side convey an additional feeling of lightness due to their transparency.

Messages that should be conveyed on the beach flag

As a general rule, only one glance at the beach flag should be enough to make the advertising message comprehensible and thus successful. In order for the viewer to see which company the advertisement comes from, the corresponding logo can be presented on the beach flag. It should be visible but not dominant, otherwise the message could be lost. As an alternative to the logo, the company colours could also be used to design the beach flag. Whatever you decide, make sure you know what you want to achieve with your message and how you can present it most successfully on the beach flag. The most important thing is to choose the right printing inks and materials.

As an alternative to lettering, you can also use imagery. Since comprehensive texts are not feasible on the beach flag anyway, images are an ideal way to convey the advertising message. This way, walk-in customers can see at a glance what it's all about. However, make sure that there is still enough space on the beach flag so as not to overwhelm the potential customer's eye.
